A DAY on a film set with Academy Award-winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy is being offered to one Keighley filmmaker.

Simon has offered the prize to the winner of a new category at Keighley’s annual RATMA (River Aire Ten Minute Amateur) international film festival.

Whoever wins the Made in the Aire Valley section will be able to visit the set of whichever of Simon’s films is next made in the UK.

Simon made the offer after festival organisers wrote to him asking if he would present prizes during this year’s RATMA festival on October 12.

Simon replied that he was out of the country during October while shooting a film in America.

He said: “I would be happy to take an aspiring filmmaker round a film set of mine when one is shooting in this country. Not until next year, I fear.”

Local artist Jane Howie invited Simon after expressed support for organisers of Keighley’s first Arts and Film Festival, which will include the long-established RATMA.

Jane said: “It’s a pretty great and awesome prize for the best Made in the Aire Valley film.”

Organisers recently won a small grant from the Big Lottery Awards For All community fund for the Made in the Aire Valley competition.

Ratma will be held in October 12, with screenings at several pop-up venues in Keighley town centre, and a screening of the category winners the same evening at Keighley Picture House.

Films will be shown at pop-up cinemas around Keighley including the Airedale Shopping Centre, Creative Space comedy Picture House and the Exchange.

The deadline for entries is August 31, and submissions can be made via ratmafilmfestival.com.
