STUDENTS at South Craven School have been congratulated for a 'brilliant' set of results in A Level and BTEC subjects.

Headteacher, Martyn Hill, said: "We are delighted to report that 35 per cent of students who studied A Levels gained the top grades A*, A or B, with a big increase in the number of students achieving A* and A grades compared to last year.

"We are especially proud of student achievement in Maths A Level, where 13 students achieved an A* or A grade."

Mr Hill added there was also real success in BTEC subjects, despite the 'increased rigor and challenge of the new specifications'.

"76 per cent of the grades awarded in BTEC Sub-Diplomas were at Distinction*, Distinction or Merit grade," he said.

" We would like to congratulate the top performing students and all the other young people who worked so hard to achieve the grades they needed to progress to university, college or employment."

Director of Sixth Form, Andrea Taylor, said she was very proud of the year.

“The students all worked really hard and on behalf of the Sixth Form team I want to wish them well in their future endeavours.”

The school is now offering its usual post results support to any student who needs advice or guidance.

Mr Hill said once again, South Craven students will be off to study a wide range of subjects at university.

They included English Literature, Medicine, Law and Dance at universities including Manchester, Salford, Nottingham and Hull York Medical School.

"One of our students achieved 4 A*s in his A Levels and has gained a place at Wadham College, Oxford to study Physics.

"Other students have taken up apprenticeship opportunities at local engineering companies including Prudumax and Paul Waite Associates in Cross Hills, Calmag in Riddlesden and BAE Systems in Humberside.

" Other destinations include the RAF and Craven College whilst other students will be taking a gap year before going on to further study in 2020."

He added: "Finally, as well as congratulations to students I would like to extend congratulations and thanks to parents and families who have provided so much support to our students and the school.

"I would also like to thank all the staff at South Craven School for their hard work in making these results possible."
