MESSIAH and madrigals, blues and swing – all these feature in the autumn season at Silsden Town Hall.

The Friends of Town Hall promise a melodic extravaganza during two concerts in September to kick off the “exciting and diverse” programme.

The Tom C Walker Band will perform blues on September 14.

Birmingham-born Tom is said to have stunned audiences from a young age with his virtuoso performances, his guitar playing quickly earning him respect and the chance to play alongside older musicians.

Since then Tom and his trio have headlined major UK venues, including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, and had a residency at Jools Holland's The Jam House.

The band have toured America and shared stages with the likes of Paul Jones (Manfred Mann), John Lodge (The Moody Blues), Devon Allman, Mungo Jerry and British soul legends Kokomo.

Recently expanded to a four-piece band, the Tom C Walker Band were nominated as UK Blues Challengers last year.

Tickets cost £13 in advance and £15 on the door. Doors open at 7pm.

Sunday September 15 at 2.30pm will see Quodlibet, a group of four vocalists who specialise in singing music from the 16th century onwards, ranging from the spiritual to the bawdy.

They also use instruments of the period, such as lute, dulcimer and hurdy-gurdy, and spice their programme with anecdotes.

In Silsden the group will perform music from the time of Queen Elizabeth I. Refreshments will be available.

Quodlibet have performed in the Leeds International Concert Season and at many National Trust properties, including Fountains Abbey and Bolsover Castle.

Coming up later in the autumn will be the Two Rivers Swing Band, and n acclaimed one-woman show by historian Irene Lofthouse entitled Forgotten Female Voices of the Great War.

KVU Singers will present Handel's Messiah on December 14, reviving an old Silsden tradition that began in 1875 and lasted for over 100 years. Visit ticketsource.co.uk/friends-of-silsden-town-hall or call at Twiggs Newsagents in Silsden to buy tickets.
