A KEIGHLEY filmmaker is making a documentary about people who have moved to the town from afar.

Scott Coulthard wants to speak to migrants from years past who have settled in the town and have interesting stories to tell.

The movie he makes will be a flagship event at the first-ever Keighley Arts and Film Festival this October.

It will be screened at a newly-created mini-cinema at one of the main festival’s central venues, Keighley Creative Space in Hanover Street.

Scott, 27, who has been making films for a decade, has teamed up with young female filmmaker Munny to create the film entitled Why Keighley.

They are carrying out interviews over the next few weeks with people with backgrounds such as Italy, Ireland and South Asia. Scott is also talking to recent migrants.

Scott said: “It’s any person from any era, but preferably older people because they have more of a story – people came after the war, or in the 1970s to work in the mills. Some people have amazing, harrowing stories.”

Scott is particularly looking for someone who came to Keighley from Italy who is willing to relate their experiences.

Jane Howie, with the leading lights of the Keighley Arts and Film Festival, said: “Scott is a very exciting up-and-coming local filmmaker.”
