A FIREWORKS display company is on cloud nine.

Optimum Fireworks, based at Riddlesden, has won a coveted title for the fifth time in six years.

It has once again been declared the nation’s Firework Champions.

The team was up against two other top outfits from across the country in the competition, at Stanford Hall near Rugby.

Each entrant staged a ten-minute display, choreographed to music. An audience text vote then decided the winner.

“We were absolutely delighted,” said Rebecca Cooper, for Optimum Fireworks.

“To take the title five times in six years is a huge achievement for the team.

“We were up against tough competition, including the only team to have ever beaten us previously. But this win means we’re now up on them in terms of competitions!”

A video of the winning display will be published on the company’s Facebook page.

Family-run Optimum Fireworks has traded under its own name since 2010, but prior to that had been assisting other companies and running displays on their behalf since 1997.

Its debut Firework Champions victory was in 2014, at Broughton Hall, Skipton.

The company was the first from Yorkshire to compete in the extravaganza.

This year it was up against Kent-based AJ Pyrotechnics and Blitz Fireworks, from Crewe.

Organisers paid tribute to Optimum’s “creativity” and “careful choice of individual fireworks and meticulous choreography”.

The firm – which in 2015 won a North of England Entertainment Provider of the Year accolade – organises many public displays, as well as private events.

For the past four years it has provided a large-scale display at the sell-out Beat Herder Festival, near Clitheroe.

And last year it organised the fireworks at Keighley’s Christmas lights switch-on, which it will be doing again this year.
