THE former MP for Brecon and Radnorshire has thanked the constituency for its support during the four years he held the seat.

Chris Davies has written an open letter to the County Times to say thank you to everyone, and state that he intends to continue being involved in organisations and activities in the area.

Mr Davies re-stood for the Conservative Party in last month's by-election which was triggered after a successful recall petition, following his conviction earlier this year for falsifying expenses.

Despite a visit to Brecon from the new Primeminister Boris Johnson in the run up to polling day, Mr Davies saw the seat narrowly won by the Liberal Democrats' Jane Dodds.

In his letter Mr Davies wishes "good health and happiness" to all residents in Brecon and Radnorshire.

He said: "It has been my privilege to serve the people of Brecon and Radnorshire as your Member of Parliament over the past four years. This time has now sadly come to an end, something that I greatly regret because there is still so much I want to do for the people of this constituency.

"I accept the result of a democratically held vote and a majority decision and therefore would like to thank each and every one of you for my time spent as your MP.

"Over the last four years I have worked hard both in the Constituency and in Westminster. I have played a very active part in my roles on the DEFRA Select Committee, Public Accounts Committee and the Welsh Select Committee.

"I have raised many issues in the chamber on behalf of constituents including veteran welfare, mental health in our rural communities, support for agriculture and for tourism, improvements in rural broadband and better provision for those dealing with deaths abroad. I have chaired various committees including cross party groups and I have supported the democratic vote of the people to deliver Brexit at all its stages.

"My constituency work has given me real pleasure. It has been an honour to have been able to open the doors for so many people to Government departments and to Ministers and for myself and my team to assist with so many personal issues for fellow residents in Brecon and Radnorshire and to help bring them to a satisfactory conclusion.

"May I take this opportunity to thank you for your support over the past four years. I am aware that not everyone will have agreed with me on everything but that’s politics. I hope that you will have seen that every decision I took was with the best interests of the people of Brecon and Radnorshire at heart.

"I will continue to be around the constituency, as I live here, my children going to school here and I am involved in so many organisations and activities here.

"I hope that our paths cross again very soon and in the meantime may I wish all residents of Brecon and Radnorshire good health and happiness for the future.

"With all good wishes, Chris Davies."
