FIVE police officers were attacked every day in West Yorkshire over the past two weeks, including being bitten, spat at and headbutted.

The figures, revealed by West Yorkshire Police Federation, reveal the barrage of officers come up against in the line of duty as they merely try to do their jobs to protect the public.

Over the past fortnight, 78 police officers and six police staff have been assaulted.

The attacks include 24 officers being kicked, 20 being punched, seven being grappled or having bodily force used against them, and four were headbutted.

Disgustingly, 14 were spat at and seven were bitten.

The Police Federation said these attacks are "never acceptable".
