A STRETCH of the M62 is going to be fully closed between two junctions this weekend; here is how to avoid any traffic chaos over the coming days.

The closure will be in place from 8pm today until 5am on Monday on the westbound carriageway of the M62 between Junction 29 for Lofthouse and the M1, and Junction 28 for Tingley.

It is being closed to allow much-needed re-waterproofing work to take place on Ardsley bridge, which sits between the two junctions.

This will stop the bridge for deteriorating and being damaged by rainwater and road salt.

It had been planned for June but was postponed due to bad weather, and involves installing new drainage, resurfacing the bridge and reapplying the white lines and reflective road studs.

Motorists heading eastwards away from Bradford will not be affected, but on the return journey will need to take a diversion. Similarly, motorists on the M1 headed to Bradford will also need to take an alternative route.

The most straightforward way to avoid the closure is by using the M621, which loops round from Junction 29 to Junction 27 for Gildersome, or by heading south one junction on the M1 and picking up the A650 at Carr Gate.

Motorists are advised to allow for up to 30 minutes of delays, so should set off early in case they hit any congestion.
