AN initiative helped ensure children across the district received nutritious meals over the summer.

Food service provider Bidfood staged an Action Against Holiday Hunger campaign.

Working with FareShare Yorkshire, it supplied surplus stock on a bi-weekly basis to more than 50 holiday projects.

Bidfood development chef, Matthew Tracey, said: “It’s heartbreaking that so many children in our communities go hungry during the summer holidays, so it was great to know our support of the projects resulted in hundreds of young people being fed.”

FareShare combats food waste by redistributing stock to frontline charity projects.

Its regional chief executive, Gareth Batty, thanked Bidfood for its backing.

He added: “By providing nutritious meals and snacks, we ensured children could enjoy their holidays and return to school happy and healthy.”
