GROUPS, schools, workplaces and individuals across the Keighley area are gearing-up for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

The annual extravaganza, staged by Macmillan Cancer Support, sees hundreds of pounds raised in the district every year.

People are encouraged to hold their own coffee mornings in support of the charity.

This year’s designated day is Friday, September 27, but people are free to choose their own date.

Events planned in Keighley include a coffee morning at the Church of the Nazarene, Oakworth Road, on Saturday, September 21, from 10am to noon.

The Macmillan initiative began in 1990 when a small group of people got together for coffee and cake, and made a donation to the charity.

Last year, nearly 200,000 supporters across the country took part and millions of pounds were raised.

“While the event has grown over the years the idea remains as simple as ever – come together in support of people living with cancer and raise money for Macmillan,” said a spokesman.

“With the number of people living with cancer constantly growing, people’s support has never been more important.

“Macmillan is there to help people with cancer live life as fully as they can, but this relies on the generosity of the public.”
