THE Wesleyan School in Oakworth opened in 1878, built by Tuley Bros from the village.
It was located at the junction of Victoria Road and Station Road, on the land opposite what is now the Oakworth Co-op store. It had capacity for around 400 pupils.
The clock and bell tower were added in 1884.
The school itself was closed in 1937, but the building remained standing and was occupied by various businesses including Sharp’s Poultry.
The old building was demolished in the mid-1990s and the site was derelict for a number of years.
It is now occupied by the Holden View estate of homes, built in 2015.
