POLICE are appealing for witnesses after male driver suffered critical injuries in a serious road traffic collision on the A56 at Thornton-in-Craven, near Skipton.

A silver Ford Focus, which was travelling towards Barnoldswick from the Skipton direction, left the road and collided with a tree, near to the junction with Brearlands, at 1.15am today.

The male driver of the car suffered critical injuries and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

The road was closed in both directions for a number of hours to allow emergency services to attend the scene.

Officers are conducting enquiries to determine the circumstances around the incident and are appealing to any witnesses, who have not already spoke to police at the scene, to come forward.

They would particularly like to speak to anyone who may have captured dashcam footage of the collision, or seen the silver Ford Focus prior to it.

Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask to speak to Traffic Constable Rob Roberts in Harrogate or Traffic Constable Andy Ingram in Skipton.
