PEOPLE are being warned to be on their guard against fraudsters sending fake TV licence demands.

MP Philip Davies, whose Shipley constituency includes Cullingworth and Denholme, says he has been contacted by several anxious constituents who have received e-mails requiring them to pay for a licence by clicking a link and entering their bank card details.

Mr Davies has written to BBC bosses and Culture Secretary Nicky Morgan asking what measures can be taken to help prevent people falling victim.

“Scammers try to catch people off guard and say they need to act immediately in the hope they will panic and disclose their financial details,” said Mr Davies. “We can all play a part in preventing it by telling people about the scam, as awareness is vital.”

TV Licensing says it only uses donotreply@tvlicensing.co.uk – or donotreply@spp.tvlicensing.co.uk – to e-mail people and never sends e-mails claiming someone is entitled to a refund or a discount. For more advice, visit tvlicensing.co.uk/faqs/FAQ288.
