THE Goat's Head pub at Steeton held its first 'Goatbury' fun festival recently - raising £926.18 for Cancer Support Yorkshire.

There was fun for all the family, live music, stalls, a barbecue, face painting, children’s activities and a charity auction.

Local musician Mike Burtoft contacted the charity wanting to hold an event to raise money for Cancer Support Yorkshire, Scott and Rebecca from the Goat's Head were onboard with the idea straightaway. A call was put out on social media for music acts and organisers were all overwhelmed by the response.

A spokesperson said: "We had some amazing local acts all giving up their time for free to raise money for charity. Special thanks to Mike himself who played at the event with Rachel Paeglis, Loud Minority Samba Band, Heath Brewood, Conner Walmsley, Ruth Neilsen, Cheril Elias and Smith, Ben Waters, Alexander and Tristesse, and Loose Koverz, who were all amazing."

Helen Gatiss, Community Engagement Officer at Cancer Support Yorkshire, said: "What a great event! I am once again overwhelmed by the generosity of our community. Local businesses donated some fantastic prizes for the charity auction which proved very popular.

"We had some amazing talented local artists playing to raise money for Cancer Support Yorkshire.

"Thank you to the organisers and supporters of Goatbury - we are a small independent charity who rely heavily on donations to continue our work supporting local people affected by cancer.

"It’s great that the Goat's Head and Mike Burtoft organised the event and that their supporters went along on the day to make it such a success."
