STEETON schoolchildren learned singing from the masters thanks to a visit by the village's award-winning male voice choir.

The men sang for the children and demonstrated how a number of men with different voice sounds blend together to become a choir.

Choir spokesman Eric Parker said: "The children loved the experience of hearing live music and on a number of occasions joined in with us.

"The school's music teacher Susan Wheeler worked hard to form a school choir to sing to us so sweetly, when the school term has only just started."

Long-serving choir member Ron Crossley sang his popular party piece The Hippopotamus Song, with children joining in the refrain.

One of the Steeton Male Voice Choir members, Noel Aspinall, has a granddaughter Meredith who sings in the school choir.

The choir will perform its annual concert at King's Hall in Ilkley on October 26 at 7.30pm with guests the City of Bradford Brass Band.
