PEOPLE in ‘at risk’ groups are being urged to take-up the offer of a free flu jab.

GP practices across the district are currently inviting those eligible for a free vaccination to book an appointment.

People in the at-risk category include those aged 65 and over, pregnant women and patients with some long-term health conditions.

Sarah Muckle, director of public health with Bradford Council, said: “If you receive a letter from your GP or employer, it’s because you need to protect yourself from flu.

“Making an appointment to have a quick and simple vaccination is a lot quicker than suffering from the flu for several days.

“We would particularly encourage older people, those in at-risk groups and mums-to-be to make sure they have their flu jab to protect themselves.

“Studies have shown that it is safe to have the vaccine during any stage of the pregnancy and you can pass on protection to your baby for the first few months of their life.

“Even if you’ve already had a flu jab in previous years, you need another one this year. This is because the viruses that cause flu are always changing.”

Anyone unsure if they are eligible for a free jab should contact their GP.
