YOUR readers who have recently been proposing to change the flow of traffic in Church Street, Keighley, have not thought the matter through.

Yes, you could travel easily from North Street to South Street, and then join the queue of standing traffic in South Street a second faster.

But what about the traffic wishing to access Church Street from the opposite direction? They would have to drive down High Street and turn right. A set of traffic lights in turn would delay the traffic trying to head south from North Street.

This was exactly the situation we had some 25 years ago until the then Keighley Chamber of Trade petitioned Bradford Council to have the flow reversed to its current south-north direction.

The traffic problem will not be solved in Church Street. The problem is at the junction of Worth Way and South Street – that is where Bradford Council’s traffic department should be directing its attention.
