GROUPS across the Keighley district are being invited to apply for cash aid in the latest round of Safer Communities Fund grants.

The pot – containing cash seized from criminals – is administered by West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Burns-Williamson.

Since the fund was launched five years ago, over £2.8 million has been distributed to more than 660 projects.

In the latest round, £140,000 is up for grabs.

Groups can apply for grants of up to £6,000.

Applications are particularly invited from projects covering road safety, burglary, ‘honour’-based abuse, cyber crime, human trafficking and modern slavery, or missing people.

But funding can be sought for schemes covering any of the priorities in the Police and Crime Plan.

Mr Burns-Williamson said: “I am delighted to be able to open the 17th round of my Safer Communities Fund.

“These grants can be crucial in allowing grassroots community projects to deliver invaluable services locally.

“I would encourage everyone to raise awareness of the fund to ensure the funding allocated makes the biggest difference possible through successful applications.”

West Yorkshire Police Assistant Chief Constable Angela Williams welcomed the launch of the latest round.

“The focus on addressing vulnerability is extremely welcome and will go a long way towards supporting our approach to these priority areas,” she said.

The closing date for applications is noon on Friday, November 15.
