KEIGHLEY people are being urged to ensure they’re registered to vote.

Bradford Council issued the plea ahead of National Democracy Week, which starts on Monday (Oct 14).

Canvassers are visiting homes across the district where no one has responded to registration forms.

All the canvassers wear council ID badges and carry a ‘letter of appointment’ from the electoral services team.

Electoral bosses say adults must be registered to ensure they have a vote.

Kersten England, the electoral registration and returning officer for Bradford district, said: “There are still a number of countries around the world where people don’t get the opportunity to vote. We should not take our right to vote in the UK for granted. National Democracy Week is about celebrating this and encouraging those who haven’t done so already to register to vote.

“There may be a general election before the end of the year. Don’t miss your chance to vote in this or any other local elections or referendums.”

Anyone with queries should call 01274 432287 or e-mail electoralservices@bradford.gov.uk.

People can respond to the forms online at householdresponse.com/bradford, by calling 0800 1979871 or by completing and returning the form in the prepaid envelope to Electoral Services.

If you do not need to make any changes to the household details, you can text NOCHANGE followed by both security codes on your form to 80212.
