SILSDEN-based Ecology Building Society has picked-up two accolades in the global Finance for the Future Awards.

It took the Building Sustainable Financial Products title, which recognises organisations that have developed financial products or services aimed at sustainable outcomes.

And the society won recognition for its climate leadership.

Judges said they were impressed with “the overall goal of Ecology in funding the improvement of the existing UK housing stock” and its mortgage discounts to incentivise energy efficiency.

The awards – organised by the Institute for Chartered Accountants of England and Wales and the Prince’s Accounting for Sustainability Project – were presented at a ceremony in the City of London, by Channel 4’s Krishnan Guru-Murthy.

Ecology chief executive, Paul Ellis, said: “I am proud and honoured that our long-standing commitment to sustainability and ecological lending was recognised by the Finance for the Future Awards’ judges. Against the backdrop of the climate crisis, our success shows the time is now for a financial system that benefits people and planet.”
