GREAT gigs are assured this autumn with events organised under the banner of two the biggest names in Keighley music.

Groovy Happening will present Last Orders, RockSalt Acoustic and Ruby Stone And A Man On Piano at the usual Haworth venue, Parkside Social Club, on Saturday November 2.

And Ben Blue Waters will present his latest concert, described as “the gig of the year for acoustic blues fans in Yorkshire” at Keighley’s newest venues on November 15.

The Groovy will welcome back Last Orders, five talented musicians from across West Yorkshire who play classic rock ‘n’ roll covers guaranteed to get people on the dance floor.

Expect to hear songs by Creedence, Tom Petty, Chuck Berry, The Stones, Bob Seger, Travelling Wilburys and many more.

Returning are RockSalt Acoustic: Sian Levy (vocals), Tony Levy (guitar and vocals) and Laurie Reader (bass and vocals) with an eclectic range of classic songs and a few originals.

The Groovy hosts Ruby Stone And A Man On Piano – Dawn Stebbings and Gareth John. Dawn said: “After performing in bands together for 25 years, we decided to form a duo and perform well-known songs in our own way.”

York singer-guitarist Ross Bennett will open the show with a mix of covers and his own material. Admission is £3, in aid of Manorlands.

Blues singer-songwriter Ben Blue Waters will present his Acoustic Blues Concert at Studio 5 Live, in the Jam on Top music studios off Dalton Lane in Keighley, at 7.30pm. Headliners are George Shovlin & George Lamb, one of the UK’s top acoustic blues duos.

Ben said: “Hailing from the North East city of Sunderland, where they are the main movers and shakers of the thriving blues scene .

“They have perfected ‘the ancient art of weaving’, where the guitar interplay is so entwined that you’re not sure who played what.”

Support comes from young bluesman Sleepy Jake Segrave, playing solo, with Ben, and as part of All-Star Blues Band with Fiddling Phil Snell, Whispering Jon Ingram , Laurie ‘Lowrider’ Reader and Tim ‘The Mule’ Mull.

Ben said: “”Sleepy Jake is the finest exponent of early roots blues music of his generation, and plays with a sensitivity and passion far beyond his years. “All Star Blues Band is a bunch of local blues legends that got together for a one-off gig in August at Bradford’s Shuttle Shuffle Festival. Their rocking, downhome blues went down a storm, and they enjoyed it so much they decided to do it again”

Admission is £5. Visit ticketsource.co.uk/studiofivelive for advance tickets.
