CLASSICS old and new feature in the bumper line-up of musicals and plays for the autumn and into next year at Leeds Grand, which is currently hosting the Broadway production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I, until Saturday, November 9.

The musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.

The hit Queen and Ben Elton musical We Will Rock You returns to Leeds Grand from November 11-23. The show features 24 of Queen’s biggest hits - including We Are The Champions, Radio Ga Ga, I Want To Break Free, Somebody To Love, Killer Queen, Don’t Stop Me Now, Under Pressure, Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bites The Dust and We Will Rock You - and Ben Elton’s futuristic comedy writing.

The cast of Kay Mellor’s Band of Gold have begun rehearsals for her stage adaptation of her 1990s TV crime drama, staged at the Grand from November 28 to December 14.

TV actors Laurie Brett, Gaynor Faye, Kieron Richardson, Shayne Ward, Sacha Parkinson and Andrew Dunn, and newcomer Emma Osman, will recreate the story of women struggling to survive while working in a notorious red light district.

West End star Brenda Edwards will headline in the specially rewritten role of Deloris Van Cartier as Sister Act returns to the Grand on May 12-23.

On Your Feet! congas into the Grand from April 23-28 to portray the lives and careers of 1980s pop sensations Emilio and Gloria Estefan. The love story charts the journey from origins in Cuba, onto the streets of Miami and then international superstardom with songs like Rhythm is Gonna Get You, Get On Your Feet, Don’t Want To Lose You Now and 1-2-3.

Kander and Ebb’s landmark musical Cabaret returns to Leeds Grand on March 3-7, with its tale of young American writer Cliff Bradshaw and his relationship with English cabaret performer Sally Bowles in Berlin during the 1930s.

Also coming to the Grand are comedy musical The Book of Mormon, epic Les Miserables, sassy Six about the wives of Henry VIII, 9 to 5 the Musical, thriller Dial M For Murder, musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, and Beautiful - The Carole King Musical.
