THE LABOUR Party has launched its campaign to unseat Shipley’s MP Philip Davies in the coming General Election.
More than 100 supporters and well-wishers packed the Christian Life Church auditorium as Shipley Constituency Labour Party this month launched its campaign to try to win the seat back from the Conservatives after a 14 year gap.
Labour said Mr Davies had a majority of just over 4,600, adding that it halved Mr Davies’ majority at the 2017 general election and Shipley was now considered nationally as a “target seat”.
Labour’s candidate for the Shipley constituency seat, Dr Jo Pike, was championed by two local guest speakers with national political profiles.
Former Keighley MP Ann Cryer, who now lives in Shipley, spoke of her time as a new female MP.
She said: “I do not want to tell Jo how to do the job but I will offer every support”.
Baroness Glenys Thornton, a member of the House of Lords, who is from Bradford, spoke of her delight at three generations of Labour women representing the Bradford district in Parliament.
Shipley CLP has now opened its Campaign Centre in the Q20 Theatre at Dockfield Road in Shipley. The centre is open every day up until the election.
