VOLUNTEERS came together this month to clear a huge amount of rubbish from land beside the River Aire in Keighley.

Plastic Free Keighley worked with the Aire Rivers Trust, Canal and Rivers Trust and East Riddlesden Hall for the event.

They cleared more than 50 bags full of mostly plastic waste and 80-plus tree guards from the land opposite the National Trust property East Riddlesden Hall, at Marley sports field.

Emily Taylor from East Riddlesden Hall said it was excellent to work in partnership with different agencies in order to remove plastic waste from the piece of land.

She said: “Often visitors to the hall will walk around the lower fields of our estate, and the land opposite often has plastic waste caught in trees and bushes. So to see so many people working to remove such waste from the site was amazing.”
