STEETON Male Voice Choir performed its popular annual concert at King’s Hall in Ilkley under the baton of musical director Catherine Sweet. They were joined on the stage by the City of Bradford Brass Band under their musical director Lee Skipsey

Choir spokesman Eric Parker said: “Our audience filled King’s Hall in anticipation of wonderful evening and they were not disappointed.

“Ilkley Moor Bah’t had everyone on their toes with the band using the accompaniment to the original Bill Relton score first song in the Royal Albert Hall 1994 Festival of Yorkshire Voices.

“The evening of music came to an end with audience participation in singing Parry’s Jerusalem and Elgar’s Land of Hope and Glory.”

In the full-house audience was Andy Wildin from Sheffield, who praised the “uplifting” singers and musicians.

He said: “As a newcomer to male voice, I was struck by the expressiveness of the choir’s performances; the men’s faces transfigured as Catherine Sweet urged them to ‘Sing, Sing, Sing’ their hearts out. From the romance of

Elvis to reflections on mortality in ‘To the Fallen’ and ‘Working Man’ , their faces were etched with deep feeling.”

The choir will perform with the Cobbydale Singers on November 23 at Cornerstones Community Centre in Cottingley, and a Christmas concert on December 21 at Saint Margaret’s Parish Church in Ilkley.
