A 72 YEAR old man crashed his car into two parked vehicles in Cross Hills after a day’s fishing, heard Skipton Magistrates Court.

Keith Shooter had been at a fish farm in Lothersdale on May 15 where he had also had a couple of pints, the court heard today (Friday).

He was driving along Wheatlands Lane at about 4.30pm when he collided with two parked cars.

Police attending reports of a road traffic collision spoke to Shooter, he provided a positive roadside test and was taken to the police station. A blood test later revealed he had 152 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80.

Shooter, who admitted drink driving and was of previous good character, had been driving slowly at the time and had been blinded by the sun, the court was told in mitigation.

The pensioner, of Fountain Villas, Oxenhope, Keighley, was banned from driving for 19 months. He was also fined £276, and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £30. If he completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course, his ban will be reduced by 19 weeks.
