AFC Liverpool 8

Steeton 0

STEETON suffered their second successive rout in the space of three days as they were beaten 8-0 by AFC Liverpool in the North West Counties League Division One North.

Fresh from a 5-0 home defeat to Emley the previous Saturday, Roy Mason's side suffered travel sickness in Tuesday night's clash at a chilly Marine Travel Arena.

The Chevrons were put to the sword again and found themselves 3-0 down at half-time as goals came from Daniel Cockerline (2) and James McGrane.

Kyle Schorah, Mark Stephens, Luke Stephens and Anthony Lyons added further misery with goals in the second half before McGrane bagged his second.

Cockerline drew first blood for Liverpool in the fourth minute and the hosts never looked back after that.

The Merseyside outfit doubled their lead three minutes later through the same player and it was three after just 22 minutes via McGrane.

The pain continued for Steeton two minutes into the second period when Schorah made it 4-0. Then Mark Stephens made it 5-0 in the 53rd minute.

Mason decided to give two of his players minutes with the contest already over when he made a double substitution.

Henri Nimi came on for his Steeton debut, replacing Tyler Marsh. Tawonga Gumboh made way for Toby Jeffrey.

There was still time for Liverpool to grab another three goals in the closing 24 minutes.

Luke Stephens went first to make it 6-0, followed by Lyons 11 minutes from time.

McGrane completed his brace, and his side's scoring, with their eighth of the night, eight minutes from time, to complete a miserable night for the visitors.

The results leaves Steeton bottom of the table with just eight points from their opening league games.

It was their 11th defeat out of 15 games this season and they now find themselves three points adrift of second-from-bottom AFC Darwen, who also have a game in hand on Steeton.

The two heavy defeats have also dented Steeton's goal difference, which now stands at -28. They have only won two games all season, drawing the remaining two.

The Chevrons' clash with Golcar United this Saturday has been switched to Cougar Park (3pm kick-off).
