OXENHOPE C of E Primary School has held an open day to show off its new curriculum and revamped facilities.

Local parents went along to see the children at work and learn about changes introduced since term began early this autumn.

She said: “There is a real buzz around the building and this has meant that all the children have had a flying start.”

The school has refurbished its family and nurture room, known as The Nest, which is led by Pastoral Manager Gillian Dyson.

Mrs Jones said: “The Nest is an intrinsic part of Oxenhope. The facility ensures that families feel fully supported and that children have a safe space which develops their social and emotional needs.

“Lots of our children use The Nest, for small group intervention, breakfast club, to help them when they find things hard, and a place to feel loved and secure. Gillian Dyson works tirelessly, liaising with other agencies and supporting families.

“Our Nest has had a refurbishment and is now in a slightly larger space. This will mean we can offer more children support and Gillian can offer a wider range of interventions.

“We have more grand plans for a Nest outside area and an on-site community hub.”

Mrs Jones recently rewrote the school’s curriculum, putting at its heart the development of the ‘whole child’.

She said:”Our aim is to provide an inspiring and engaging curriculum which ensures tomorrow’s generation are able to succeed in an ever-changing world.”

Mrs Jones said pupils were given chances to question the world around them, and time to explore whole topics and themes in their own learning.”

She added: “We strongly believe that the community is a vital teaching tool to equip children with empathy and tolerance. We open children’s eyes to the world around them.”
