A DRINK-driver had to be rescued from her vehicle after overturning it, magistrates heard.

Jody Cowgill, 33, was freed from her Range Rover – which was blocking the road – by a taxi driver, who smashed a window so she could climb out, Skipton Court heard.

Cowgill, of Calf Wood Lane to Dale End, Lothersdale, provided a positive roadside breath test and was taken to the police station, where she was found to have 56 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35.

Cowgill, of previous good character, admitted drink-driving. She told the court she was very sorry for what she had done, that it was fortunate no one else had been injured, and that losing her licence would be 'life-changing'.

She said she had been with her partner, in Skipton, they had been drinking during the evening and she had intended to stay overnight at his house. But they quarrelled and she had decided to drive home, not thinking she was over the limit.

The incident happened in Pale Lane, Carleton, in the early hours of October 23.

Cowgill was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £380 and ordered to pay a surcharge of £38 and costs of £85. If she completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course, her ban will be reduced by 13 weeks.
