TV CELEBRITY Harry Gration will switch on the Christmas lights in Haworth on Saturday.

The BBC Look North presenter will kick-off a series of events in and around Main Street for visitors and villagers throughout the festive season.

The season is being organised by a group of business people from Haworth.

Saturday’s fun event at the bottom of Main Street, which begins at 4pm and lasts for about two hours, is billed as the first-ever Haworth Christmas tree lights switch-on.

Josie Price, of Weavers Guesthouse, said: “There will be a fabulous light show, live music, Haworth School’s Christmas Choir and a few surprises along the Jingle way

“We know Harry loves Haworth, having ridden a tandem and pushed a big red sofa up the famous cobbles. .

“Come and meet Santa on his sleigh kindly donated by the Keighley Lions, along with Cinderella and Prince Charming with baskets full of goodies.

“We will start the Christmas Bauble Hunt which will continue throughout December, so your eyes open for hand-painted baubles up the street, with thanks to Stanbury, Haworth and Lees schools for decorating them.”

On Saturday, Harry Gration will welcome people at 4pm, then after live performances and the light show he will switch on the lights at 4.50pm.

This will be followed by more entertainment, and a “meet and greet” with Harry, Santa Claus, and Keighley Musical Theatre Company actors in their guises from the upcoming pantomime Cinderella, including the leading lady herself, Prince Charming, two ugly sisters and fairies.

Upcoming events include Haworth’s torchlight parade on December 7 and 8, and brass bands on December 14 and 15. The following weekend will see the Nativity followed by carols.
