KEIGHLEY people are being given extra motivation to get on their bikes next month (Dec).

A Winter Wheelers challenge is being run through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority CityConnect programme, in conjunction with the Love to Ride campaign.

By registering at lovetoride.net/cityconnect, participants can log miles, set goals and earn badges for cycling to work for a week, riding 100 miles or encouraging a friend or colleague to take part – with fun competitions between individuals and workplaces.

Love to Ride can be connected to many cycling apps, such as Strava, which will then automatically record rides and enter participants into daily prize draws with the chance of winning winter riding gear.

A combined authority spokesman said: “We want as many people as possible to get involved in Winter Wheelers.

“Whether you cycle every day or whether you haven’t been on a bike in years, if you’re cycling for transport or for fun, whatever time and wherever you’re going, our online cycle challenges help provide that extra bit of motivation, especially at this time of year.”

CityConnect has issued advice for winter cycling.

It says people should ensure they are highly visible, and wear suitable clothing – lots of thin layers and pack some waterproofs, a decent pair of gloves and a warm hat or headband.
