AN AWARD-winning Eastburn care home is furthering its work to stop elderly suffering pressure ulcers.

Croft House was this year named the React to Red Care Home of the Year for its efforts to protect residents.

Staff members Kelly Flaherty and Shana Mellor, the React to Red Champions, have now hosted Stop the Pressure Day at the home.

They invited residents’ friends and families to join them in helping to prevent pressure ulcers.

Kelly, the deputy manager, said: "Every year the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel supports an international day to help bring pressure ulcers to the public’s attention.

"Stop Pressure Ulcers Day is a global annual event in which industry, healthcare professionals, the public and media come together to help raise awareness of pressure ulcers and how we can work to prevent them."

Croft House created table displays of pressure relieving ideas, while everyone at Croft House wore the colour red for the day.

Kelly added: "We had a real-life dummy for people to practice relieving pressure and identifying pressure areas. We had two nutritional raffles, and various demonstrations of how to prevent pressure ulcers.

"To promote pressure relief our residents participated in multiple games and activities such as dancing with red balloons."

Croft House staff are all trained in how to prevent pressure ulcers amongst elderly people, and make it part of their day-to-day work.
