A SCHOOL took part in a Santa fun run – and boosted funds for additional outdoor play resources.

More than 30 children, staff members and parents from Stanbury Village School joined nearly 2,000 other participants in the five-kilometre event at Skipton.

The school team was led by headteacher, Graham Swinbourne.

He said: “It was a fantastic morning.

“Due to the size of the team, the school received £250 plus the sponsorship raised by those taking part. And team member Jorge Thomas, a foundation stage parent, was the first overall to finish the run in an amazing 17 minutes.”

Organisers of the Skipton Great Santa Fun Run, now in its 10th year, said the event was a huge success.

A record 1,940 runners took part, following a new route around the town. Over the years about £300,000 has been raised for various charities, including Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice Manorlands.

Rotarian Colin Hargreaves, event committee chairman, said: “We are very proud to have been organising this for ten years." He thanked everyone for their support.
