GPs across the district are reminding patients to order repeat prescriptions before the festive holidays.

Prescriptions requested after Thursday, December 19, may not be processed in time for Christmas.

Some GP services will be available on the festive bank holidays, but to help emergency services and not for routine appointments. Most practices will be closed.

Dr Dave Tatham, clinical lead for urgent and emergency care at the three NHS Bradford district and Craven clinical commissioning groups, said: “Christmas is a very busy time for many people and ordering repeat prescriptions isn’t always at the top of everyone’s list.

“But not getting your repeat prescriptions ordered in time could mean you don’t have enough medication to get you through the festive period and you risk getting ill if you run out.

"People who don’t have enough of their regular medications can also put a lot of strain on emergency services, which are there to deal with life-threatening illnesses and injuries, not to issue prescriptions.”
