KEIGHLEY people seeking festive bargains online are being warned against fraudsters.
West Yorkshire Police say that by taking a few simple steps, shoppers can avoid becoming a victim of internet criminals.
The force has issued information as part of a ‘Twelve Days of Crime Prevention Advice’ campaign in the run-up to Christmas.
Advice includes:
* Do your research on the retailer before buying
* Make sure the site is secure. Look out for https on the address link – and when making a purchase, look for the padlock symbol
* Use a secure internet connection – avoid using public Wi-Fi to make purchases
* Keep receipts and check your credit card or bank statements to make sure the correct amount has been debited
A spokesman said: “If you notice anything unusual with your transactions or fear you have used an unsafe website to purchase an item, firstly contact your bank and then inform Action Fraud.”
