COWLING’S Gemma Towell is embarking on an epic journey where she will tackle the Pennine Way.

Regarding it as ‘a moment of insanity’ Gemma was persuaded to take on the well-known and physically demanding route after being sponsored by Skipton’s Whitakers Chocolates, where she works, brewers Timothy Taylors and Ian Harris Physio Solutions.

“In just a few weeks and with the ongoing support of my ever suffering husband, Peter, I am attempting the Winter Spine race for Sue Ryder and Manorlands, the full 268 Miles of Pennine Way with just seven days to complete it.

“After picking up an ankle injury in the summer Ian and Barbra of Ian Harris Physio Solutions, in Cross Hills, have been amazing and doing all they can to keep me on the move and running.

“They couldn’t have done any more for me and I really can’t thank them enough.

“With such a big event its not just about preparing yourself, but preparing the extensive kit list that you must adhere to to keep you as safe as possible.

“T,his includes you kit for the course and the check points.

“As I am not particularly a great runner and this will be by far the biggest thing I have attempted on foot.

“I don’t doubt for one moment that this is going to be a really tough event or if I am even capable of completing it, but whatever happens please know that I will have given it my everything.

Gemma attempted a Three Peaks cycling and running challenge in summer but fell badly and gashed her leg, causing her to pull out and completing it later.

She is continuing her fundraising with this latest challenge.

So far Gemma has raised over £1,300 towards Sue Ryder Manorlands.
