YOUNG people from Keighley are being offered cash help to turn environmental project ideas into reality.

People aged 11 to 24, living within an hour's travel of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, are being urged to apply for funding.

Grants of between £50 and £1,000 are available, through the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust’s Youth Environmental Action Fund.

The money is for small-scale projects that will raise environmental awareness or improve the natural environment in the Dales and surrounding areas.

Schemes previously supported through the fund have ranged from school recycling initiatives and the creation of wildlife gardens and meadows, to community art and dance performances.

The latest round of grants will be the last under the venture.

Fiona Busfield, project officer at the trust, said: "It’s a real pleasure to be able to give groups of enthusiastic young people a helping hand in putting put their eco ideas into practice.

"Over the last five years, we have awarded more than £15,000 to around 21 projects and we know they make a real difference.

"We encourage people to 'think outside the box', so if you have an idea that you believe can have an impact then get in touch."

The fund is part of the Green Futures programme, which supports young people in Yorkshire and Lancashire to become more involved in the natural environment.

Grant applications must be submitted by Monday, February 3.
