AN event is being held in memory of a popular former Keighley GP.

Ceilidh for Carolyn is being staged in tribute to Dr Carolyn Gill, who died in December, 2018.

Proceeds from the event – at Silsden Town Hall on Saturday, March 14 – will go to Manorlands.

Dr Gill was a volunteer at the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice and a member of its Riddlesden fundraising group.

“Carolyn loved a ceilidh and used to organise an annual event in support of the hospice until she sadly passed away,” said Manorlands-based Sue Ryder community fundraising manager, Andrew Wood.

“The Riddlesden fundraising group has decided to organise this event in her memory and everyone is welcome to come along for a great evening, whether they knew Carolyn or not.”

The ceilidh, which starts at 7.30pm, will feature the Phoenix Ceilidh Band and caller Tony Charnock.

Tickets are £10 per adult, including a pie and peas supper, or family tickets are available at £25.

They can be ordered from the Manorlands fundraising office on 01535 640430.

Dr Gill, who was 65, worked at Ling House Medical Centre in Keighley for 30 years – retiring in 2012.

She was passionate about folk music and dancing and helped organise a ceilidh club in Addingham.

In addition to her support of Manorlands, she also backed various other charities including the RSPB, the National Trust, Guide Dogs and the Samaritans.

All Manorlands services are free to patients and their loved ones, but it costs £10,000 a day to keep the hospice doors open.
