The efforts to support Chineham Library and help keep it open have been increasing by the day. As it stands, you can currently:

1. Have your say by completing the library consultation https://www.hants.gov.uk/…/consultatio…/library-consultation (the library also has printed copies).

2. Use the library, since every person who attends is counted, every book taken out and every log in adds to the overall picture of how well used the library is.

3. Sign the petition https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/save-chineham-library

4. Put the date and time of the public drop in into your diary. This will act as part of the consultation: 4th February, 2pm - 6pm

5. Join the ‘Friends of Chineham Library” Facebook page.

6. Tell people, neighbours, groups you attend, your family and friends about all of the above.

The Hampshire County Council consultation is open until Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Feedback received will inform decisions to be made by the Executive Member for Recreation and Heritage in summer 2020. The general reading group will be meeting at Chineham Library on Saturday, January 25 at the usual time of 10.30am. And don’t forget that the social drop-in group Cuppa and Chat meet weekly on Wednesdays at 10.30am in the Acorn Room at the library.

Chineham WI’s first meeting of 2020 will be next Monday, January 27 in the Shaftesbury Room at Christ Church. It will offer members the opportunity to learn to dance in the Bollywood style under the instruction of Annabel Brash!

ELEMIS Superfood Wellness Evening: A free event being held at Hampshire Court Leisure and Spa Club on Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

Christ Church Activities: Messy Church will be on Monday, January 27, 3.45 – 5.45pm. Go and join in with some Messy Games, share a meal and have some fun. Parents must stay with their children. Free, but donations welcome.

Daytime Holy Communion will take place next Tuesday, January 28 at 11am. A small friendly group of worshippers meets monthly to receive Holy Communion – all are welcome. And why not stay on afterwards for the Lunch club that follows Communion?

JUBILOAKS WORKING PARTY are meeting at St John’s lay-by on January 25 between 10:00am & 12:00pm. For all work parties meet at St John’s lay-by unless indicated otherwise. Please wear suitable clothing for weather conditions and stout footwear – tools and gloves provided. Hot drinks available, but recommended you bring a bottle of water and your own sunscreen during hot weather. Oakley Woodlands Group Work party are working at Cowdown Copse on January 25 between 10:00am & 1:00pm. If you would like some gentle exercise in the fresh air, then why not come along to one of our work parties. We provide tools, training and refreshments.

Oakley Health Walk leaves from Oakley school lay-by on January 26 at 2:30pm. All welcome for a 1 hour walk which is part of the nationwide Walking for Health Scheme.

Wates Application: the application to build up to 110 houses at Station Road has now been validated by the Borough. The reference is 20/00004/OUT and you have until January 29 to register objections (or support) for the application. You can do that by email to development.control@basingstoke.gov.uk, via the BDBC website, or by letter to Phillip Richards, Planning and Development, BDBC, Civic Offices, London Road, Basingstoke Hants RG21 4AH. I will update you when I have any more information, and we are looking to set up a group email so that everyone can receive updates at the same time!

The way we use libraries are changing, tell them what you most value about them. Hampshire County Council is asking people who live, work and study in Hampshire to have their say on proposed changes to the library service. The consultation is open from Thursday, January 9 until Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Visit www.hants.gov.uk/library-consultation and fill it on line or pick up a copy from you local library. Alternative formats are available by calling 0300 555 1387.

Tadley and Baughurst Art Club are appealing for help. They urgently need storage space for a trailer containing exhibition display screens. It needs to be kept under cover, so a garage or barn space in Tadley or Baughurst would be ideal. Please contact them if you think you might be able to help.

Kempshott

Reference has been made before to the multiplicity of opportunities to keep fit and move that exist in Kempshott, and this time the age range can be extended. Baby Sensory is on a Monday morning at Kempshott Village Hall. A new opportunity for Baby Ballet now exists: Kirsten on 07770 880967 will supply any information you need beyond Wednesday 4pm at Beggarwood Community Centre and Saturday 10.15am at the Methodist Church in Kempshott Lane. The WI meets as usual on the 4th Monday at the Village Hall. Last year’s successful soup lunch for members is being repeated, followed by a beetle drive at 2.30. Visitors are welcome and members are reminded that subs are due.

Hatch Warren

THE HATCH WARREN AND BEGGARWOOD Community Planning Group has been quiet for a couple of months, but the Borough Council officers are looking to arrange a meeting, probably for 7pm on January 29 at the Hatch Warren Community Centre. This group, comprising residents of the area, will look at local issues and advise the Councils on priorities and favoured actions. If you have any issues that you think should be considered, the person to contact is Jennie.Gardner@basingstoke.gov.uk.

ROAD WORKS: delays are being experienced on the A30 as work starts on the new developments along there. With Hounsome Fields being started, and the golf course site on the other side of the road designated for housing, some disruption will be inevitable.

BEGGARWOOD’S Cafe in the Park is planning to install a second picnic table and bench seats on its new patio area. The outside seating is proving popular with users (especially dog walkers) and the Community Association hopes this will be a welcome extra facility.

ST MARK’S SCHOOL is setting up a costume shop on 31st January in the small hall, after school. All proceeds will go to the school, to support the aim of buying new books. This is a trial event, so let’s hope it is a success!
