VOLUNTEERS are being sought to act as ‘Tour Makers’ when a top cycle race takes place in the spring.

Recruits will be deployed along the route of the Tour de Yorkshire to welcome fans and provide a point of contact for people seeking logistical information, as well helping to ensure the event passes off smoothly and safely.

The race is being held from Thursday, April 30 to Sunday, May 3.

Cyclists will pass through the Worth Valley and South Craven on the final day.

More than a thousand Tour Maker places are up for grabs, with nine new roles on offer this year.

James Mason – chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, which organises the Tour – said: “I met some of our Tour Makers at the recent route presentation event and they are such a friendly, energetic and welcoming bunch of people.

“Over the last five editions of the Tour we’ve built a brilliant team but are always looking to recruit more new faces into the fold – especially with nine new roles on offer this time.

“Tour Makers play an absolutely vital role in helping the Tour run as smoothly as it does. We’re grateful to every single one of them for the tremendous work they do – and their attitude and enthusiasm is second to none.”
