EMMA (U) is the next period drama to hit the big screens.

How popular period dramas seem to have been over the last few years with films such as Downton Abbey, The Favourite, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and Mary Queen of Scots.

You’re going to love this one too. The film follows the antics of young Emma Woodhouse, who lives in Georgian England and occupies herself with matchmaking in sometimes misguided, often meddlesome, fashion, for her friends and family.

Emma is based on the 1815 novel of the same name by Jane Austen and directed by Autumn de Wilde. I’m sure this will make a brilliant watch for all you drama lovers.

With the school holidays just around the corner we have the perfect film for the kids and adults alike. Sonic the Hedgehog (PG) sprints into cinemas from Friday February 14. Sonic tries to navigate the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound best friend, a human named Tom Wachowski.

They must soon join forces to prevent the evil Dr Robotnik from capturing Sonic and using his powers for world domination. I’m sure a lot of us remember playing the games when we where younger so this I’m sure will appeal a lot of you. Jim Carrey also looks great as Dr Robotnik.

The Call of the Wild (PG) is the next big adventure film to be released in cinemas and arrives on February 19. Starring Harrison Ford and Dan Stevens, it is based on Jack London’s 1903 novel of the same name and a  1935 film adaptation.

We follow Buck, a big-hearted dog whose blissful domestic life gets turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transported to the exotic wilds of the Alaskan Yukon in the 1890s. As the newest rookie on a mail-delivery dog sled team, Buck experiences the adventure of a lifetime as he ultimately finds his true place in the world.

Greed (15) which is released on February 21 is a British film starring Steve Coogan which tells the story of self-made British billionaire Sir Richard McCreadie, whose retail empire is in crisis.

For 30 years he has ruled the world of retail fashion, bringing the catwalk to the high street. But after a damaging public inquiry, his image is tarnished. To save his reputation, he decides to bounce back with a highly publicised and extravagant party celebrating his 60th birthday on the Greek island ofMykonos.

Our next National Theatre Live is Cyrano de Bergerac (15) screening from London’s West End, starring James McAvoy (X-Men, Atonement) in the title role.

This inventive new adaptation by Martin Crimp tells the story our hero, Cyrano, who is fierce with a pen and notorious in combat. He almost has it all - if only he could win the heart of his true love Roxane. This will screen on February 20 at 7pm.
