AN expert from the British Tinnitus Association is to give a talk at Airedale Hospital.

Colette Bunker, the association’s volunteer and support group manager, is addressing the next meeting of Keighley Tinnitus Support Group.

“I always look forward to coming to Keighley – which is one of our gold-standard support groups,” she said.

“The facilitators and volunteers create a welcoming, friendly environment for attendees and strive to provide the best support and advice they can. They do a great job by giving-up their free time to help the tinnitus community.

“Tinnitus can be an isolating condition. We’re keen to spread the word that there are management techniques which help a person lead the best life they can, and to reduce the burden of living with this condition.”

The talk takes place in the hospital’s education centre on Thursday, March 12, between 3pm and 4.30pm.

An estimated 9,000 people in Keighley alone experience tinnitus.

The condition is defined as the experience of sounds with no external source, most commonly ringing or buzzing, but sometimes whooshing, clicking or even music.

The Keighley support group enables those with tinnitus to meet others who have the condition, and to receive information, tips on coping methods and details of latest research.
