TWO colleagues who between them have clocked-up 60 years’ service at a Keighley medical centre are retiring.

GP Neil Smith began work at Ling House in May 1990, just a few months after practice nurse Julie Berry.

At the end of this month, the pair call it a day.

Ling House, now in Scott Street, was formerly based at Skipton Road.

“It has been a privilege for us to have served the community for so long,” said Dr Smith.

“We have worked with a huge number of wonderful colleagues, and have been fortunate to meet many thousands of Keighley residents in the course of our work.

“Julie has been absolutely dedicated to improving the care of patients with asthma, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and other respiratory diseases. And I have had an interest in diabetes throughout my time here.

“We will miss our colleagues and our patients.”

Mrs Berry plans to do more walking in her retirement.

Dr Smith intends pursuing interests including cycling and reading, and will be carrying out some voluntary work.
