A KEIGHLEY charity for people with learning disabilities is spreading the word about its life skills holidays.

People First Keighley and Craven runs residential trips where adults with learning disabilities can take part in a host of activities.

The Healthy Learning holidays offer skills such as first-aid, and cooking along with sports, games and socialising.

The charity has run the holidays successfully for several years, but now wants to ensure it reaches all communities in Keighley, as well as people in North Yorkshire and other surrounding areas.

People First development support worker Angela Day said: “We have lots of fun whilst learning.

“Our holidays support people with learning disabilities to make small changes to enable them to have a healthier diet and lifestyle, make friends, learn or build on skills they already have, and to have fun trying new things, including different foods.

“We are eager for all communities to take advantage of this offer. There is a relatively small charge of £75 for the week Monday to Friday. Carers can accompany a person for a reduced price.”

The Learning Holidays are subsidised by the Big Lottery, which is providing funding for the next four years.

People First, which is based at Springfield Mills on Oakworth Road, is organising a concert on April 23 to raise money for its general funds.

Anyone interested in the Learning Holidays or the concert should call 01535 607222 or 07422 939461, or email angela.day@peoplefirstkeighleykc.com.

People First Keighley and Craven started in 2002 as the Out There Club, a social group for people with learning disabilities, and expanded into support services, disability rights campaigning, and advocacy.

Becoming a registered charity in 2008, the organisation is run by disabled people with support workers.
