LAYCOCK Primary School in Keighley has achieved the National Nurturing Schools Award.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Cllr Doreen Lee, presented the award to children and staff at his celebratory assembly.

The award came after external assessors from the Nurture UK organisation looked at how the school met six guiding principles.

School head Juliet Nove said the award focused on the work by schools to ensure it met the social and emotional needs of pupils, parents, carers and staff.

It also took into account the work of the school in the wider community.

Mrs Nove said: "We want to give all children the very best start in life, equipping them with the social and emotional skills to do well.

"Six principles develop their resilience, and their capacity to deal more confidently with the trials and tribulations of life, for life.

“The staff, children and governors of Laycock Primary School are delighted by this award. It recognises the considerable hard work that supports nurture in our curriculum.”

“A positive, caring and supportive environment enables the very best learning. Happy children in a safe space – that’s what we provide at Laycock.

"We are dedicated to providing this for our children. We’re delighted that Nurture UK recognized this.”
