INSPECTORS have declared an Eastburn care home Outstanding in four out of five categories.

Croft House became one of only 36 out of 7,000 homes in the UK to receive four Outstanding grades following a recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection.

The home, in Main Road, is run by Giles and Vicky Bateman with a staff of 40 who provide personal care for up to 29 people aged 65 and over.

The CQC inspection, carried out in January, gave the Outstanding grade for Croft House being effective, caring, responsible and well-led, and gave a Good grade for safety.

Vicky said: “This is a phenomenal result and the staff are thrilled. In the whole of Yorkshire and Humberside only six residential homes including ours have Outstanding in four categories.

“Feedback about staff was truly exceptional. We want to thank them for their dedication and hard work, together with all the home’s families and friends who have supported them, all of which resulted in this fantastic inspection report.

“The home will be celebrating with their residents and friends with a party at Croft House, and the management team have organised a night out for staff to say a big thank you.”

Vicky highlighted the inspectors’ mention of “exceptionally kind and caring” staff dedicated to ensuring each person had as comfortable a life as possible.

She said the report featured the words of a resident about staff, who said: “Every morning an angel visits me and takes care of me.”

The inspectors said people experienced a better quality of life after moving to Croft House.

They said: “People received care from a highly knowledgeable staff team who had access to a wide variety of training and support.”

The inspectors agreed that healthcare needs were fully met, with assessments of each resident to create compressive care plans.

Inspectors added: “All staff and the management team demonstrated extremely caring and person-centred values. People were treated with a high level of dignity and respect, and were truly listened to.

“An excellent range of activities and social opportunities were available and there were exceptional links with the local community.

Croft House develops its own Best Practice at the forefront of high-quality care, with continuous audits and checks to drive improvement.

The inspectors said health and safety was assessed, and medicines managed in a safe and proper way.

They added: “There were a high number of staff available each day to provide people with stimulation, interaction and ensure they were safe.

“People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives.”
