LABOUR has chosen its candidate to contest the Worth Valley in May’s Bradford Council elections.

Umar Ghafoor will attempt to wrest a seat from Conservative control in the ward.

The 30-year-old is a general manager for GLL, a social enterprise which runs leisure centres and works with councils to boost health and fitness in communities.

He has lived in the Great Horton area of Bradford all his life.

“I will be looking to upset the odds in what is a majority Conservative ward,” he said. “I’m extremely passionate about helping people and I want to give back and support communities.”
