ALBION Sports' alarming run of form continued last night at home to fellow strugglers AFC Mansfield, with a 2-0 defeat seeing them drop to second bottom of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

John Francis' side have not won at all in 2020, having last tasted victory when they beat Grimsby Borough 5-1 on December 28, and this defeat to Mansfield was their seventh in a row in the league.

Albion's Alhassane Keita had a couple of half chances early on but it was the visitors who were dominating, and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 32nd minute.

Morgan James swung in a corner and Luke Walker prodded the ball home. The goalscorer should have doubled his tally moments later but headed a great chance wide.

With Mansfield failing to increase their lead, that gave Albion the chance to grab a crucial equaliser.

Joseph Thornton turned a cross from the left agonisingly wide on 66 minutes before the same Albion player wasted a good chance moments later after some good build up play.

The hosts had one final chance to equalise when they won a corner in injury time, but that was cleared, and moments later, Mansfield wrapped up the game.

A long ball was well held up on the edge of the Albion area by Walker and he was eventually able to square it to the onrushing Grant Ryan, who fired the ball home to seal the victory.

That win for the visitors took them above Albion, who will be grateful that there is only one relegation spot in the Premier Division this year, owing to a restructuring of the leagues.

Athersley Recreation currently occupy that, but they are a whole 10 points behind Albion. Regardless, Francis and his side won't be able to relax just yet, with plenty of games still to be played between now and the end of the season.
