SKIPTON Rugby Union Club's Yorkshire Division Three match at Baildon on Saturday was postponed due to concerns over the coronavirus.

A statement from Skipton read: "At training on Thursday evening, a member of the Skipton senior squad showed symptoms very similar to coronavirus (not confirmed).

"Purely as a precautionary measure, the fixture against Baildon was pulled and those training on Thursday were asked not to attend the club at the weekend."

In the same division, Old Otliensians postponed their match at home to Hemsworth - also due to health concerns.

Old Otliensians tweeted on Saturday: "Due to the ongoing situation with #COVID19, we have followed advice from the Govt & @YRFU_Official & have had to make the unfortunate decision to cancel today’s fixture at home against Hemsworth due to one of our players having to self-isolate in line with the Govt advice.

"The health and wellbeing of players & spectators is our main priority & we have had to cancel our social event at the clubhouse this evening.

"We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused but we hope you can understand our reasons for cancelling today."

Most of the district's rugby union teams were in action elsewhere, though Bradford & Bingley's game at home to Malton & Norton was postponed due to an unplayable pitch.

The RFU are continually reviewing the situation in respect of the coronavirus in line with latest Government advice.

If there are any planned changes to the future playing of the league and cup programmes this will be communicated to clubs and participants as soon as possible.
