FLOODS are not entirely a new phenomenon, although they were much rarer in the past.
This picture shows St Johns Street, in the centre of Silsden, under water after a particularly fierce storm sometime in the 1950s.
Braving it through are coal merchant Charlie Dewhurst (left), whose home and business stood at the top of St Johns Street and local newspaper reporter Roy Mason (right),.
Roy, himself from Silsden, had turned out to write the story of the flood.
The identity of the man in the middle is not known.
All three of these Memory Lane articles are written by Silsden historian and journalist Cathy Liddle.
Silsden was badly hit by flooding during the Boxing Day flooding of 2015 when Silsden Beck burst its banks.
